HPE sells GreenLake and subscriptions to partners

HPE is sitting down with its distribution partners this week to encourage them to flog its new GreenLake offeringsand subscription model to the mid-market.

The former maker of expensive printer ink  is holding its second annual distribution shindig, this week.

More than 400 partners now selling the Greenlake offerings, which makes it the fastest growing part of the vendor’s business, increasing 275 percent year-on-year.

Tibco hires Studer

Integration outfit Tibco has appointed Fred Studer as its new chief marketing officer.

Studer will lead its worldwide marketing.

Studer has a career in marketing, creative, and product management, with over 25 years experience in the high tech industry.

Panasonic joins Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider programme

Panasonic has signed up its Toughbook product as the first rugged-focused mobile computing provider to join the Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider programme.

The idea is that punters can administration time and radically improve the user experience when deploying Panasonic rugged Windows mobile devices by using the Windows Autopilot cloud-based configuration and deployment service.

Logicalis UK scores framework in

Logicalis UK announced that it had been awarded a place on Jisc Services Network Equipment framework, under three lots: Lot 3 Cisco, Lot 8 F5, and Lot 8 Infoblox.

Logicalis was named as the top-ranked supplier for Cisco solutions to the sector and is the only nominated F5 supplier.

US tops cross-border M&A activity

The US registered the highest outbound as well as inbound mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deal volume in the technology sector in 2018, according to analyst outfit GlobalData.

All the top 10 positions in terms of the number of outbound M&A deals were occupied by developed nations with the US leading the way in terms of both deal volume and value in 2018.

Wire teams up with poker expert to discover computer risks

Collaboration outfit Wire has launched its  ‘Odds of a Bad Bet’ report, which details the scale of risks businesses are up against in a time when email is proving an open door for cybercriminals and malicious actors looking to disrupt, exploit and destroy businesses.

The New Wire report co-authored with poker champion/scientific communicator Liv Boeree, and security experts that establish the odds of the gamble businesses are taking with cybersecurity.

Chromebook market grows

Chromebooks distributors are seeing strong sales of the hardware in the first few weeks of the third quarter thanks to a boost from the education sector.

In a market that demonstrates a fair amount of seasonality the third quarter has become the strongest for sales of Chromebooks as education sales filter through.

Evans joins consultancy firm Consenna

Former HP and Apple bloke Trevor Evans is analyst outfit Consenna’s new managing director.

Evans has defected from the fruity cargo cult Apple where he was channel sales director for seven years.

He said: “Having built my career leading businesses for some of the world’s most respected technology companies, I have first-hand experience of the pressures and business dynamics confronted daily by customers we’re seeking to work alongside.

“In an increasingly competitive market, both goals and resources are stretched. I’ve walked in those shoes, I know the market, the key players within it, and this equips me to demonstrate how Consenna can help amplify and maximise their sales and marketing strategies.”

Evans was channel director of HPs PC group in the UK for six years.

Douglas Jeffrey will move from MD to the chairman role at Consenna.

 

 

 

 

Private cloud infrastructure spending steady

While public cloud numbers appear to have fallen, the Private Cloud is still stable, according to IDC beancounters.

The analyst house found that private cloud hardware infrastructure spending had remained more stable, increasing in Q2 by 1.5 percent compared to the same period last year. IDC is expecting the public cloud market to cool over the rest of this year as the current market conditions continue.

Dell EMC looking for more partners

Dell EMC wants to double its UK business in the UK and Ireland and needs more partners to do so.

UK channel boss Rob Tomlin told the gathered throngs at Tech Data Live that more than half of the tech giant’s $91 billion revenue comes from its channel partners.

Tomlin said that he was surprised how many of its partners don’t understand its Channel programme and how to make rebates or profitability and explained the vendor’s Gold, Platinum and Titanium tiers.

IDE reports green shoots of recovery

Troubled MSP IDE is seeing the green shoots of recovery with earnings swinging from loss to profit.

For the six-month period ending 30 June, IDE saw revenue drop 32.4 per cent year on year to £14.7 million. EBITDA for continuing operations went from a £7.6 million loss to profit of £1 million.

Zyxel appoints Soares and EMEA boss

 Zyxel Communications appointed David Soares as its new EVP of Channel Sales and Marketing for EMEA and North America.

Soares, who has been working with Zyxel since 2017 as VP of North American sales, brings 30 years of experience to drive channel growth in the two regions.

In his new position overseeing the EMEA region, Soares will be working with his team to identify channel growth opportunities and strategies to help Zyxel’s channel partners drive their own business for more growth and profitability. His focus with the channel will be to help value-added resellers (VARs) to evolve their offerings to become managed service providers (MSPs).

Europeans wasting cash on cloud

European enterprises are spending £29.48 million on cloud services, and 42  per cent say the cloud has been critical to digital innovation initiatives in the last two years, but a big chunk of this cash is wasted.

According to the 2019, European Insight Intelligent Technology  Index  30  percent  (£8.8 million) of this cloud spend is on services that are not used.

Respondents identified the following top three challenges for managing cloud spend: determining best-fit workloads for public, private and hybrid cloud (44  percent ); planning and allocating budget for cloud consumption (39  percent ); and lack of visibility of used services at the cost centre, workload and application level (36  percent ). Based on these numbers, wasted spending is likely to be even higher, as organisations struggle to optimise their cloud investment.
