Actian expands global channel and channel programme

Data outfit Actian has announced the arrival of its new global partner programme which will provide new features and benefits for value-added distributors and system integrators.

AvalancheTM cloud data warehouse is supposed to provide a more than twenty times performance advantage over rival offerings such as AWS Redshift and Snowflake.

The company said channel partners were a key part of its strategic long-term growth plan and it was doubling its usual 10 percent  referral incentive to 20 percent through to the end of 2019.

Ciscos’s weak guidance could mean industry downturn

The tech industry could be facing a downturn after Cisco announced some lacklustre predictions for the fourth quarter.

Cisco showed sales for the three-month period ending 27 July climbing six percent to $13.4 billion.  But CEO Chuck Robbins said that the last month of the quarter “didn’t feel like a normal Q4 finish”, triggering Q1 revenue growth guidance of between zero and two percent.

Kings Walden water treatment works proves Affinity systems

Brexit stalls SAP adoption

With concerns about how they will suffer after Brexit, companies are not so keen to invest in esoteric management software which no one knows what it actually does,according to a new report published today by Information Services Group.

Apparently, Enterprises in the UK are cautious about adopting SAP S/4HANA and other SAP products, given the uncertainty surrounding the country’s exit from the European Union.

SnapLogic doubles channel partners

SnapLogic has doubled its channel partners across EMEA in the last six months as part of the continued expansion of its Partner Connect Programme in the region.

The company claimed that this investment in strategic partnerships has resulted in growing customer adoption of the SnapLogic integration platform across key markets in EMEA, including the Nordics, Benelux, and the Middle East.

The 14 new partners that have signed since the start of the year include Comma Group in the UK, ebecs (a DXC Technology company) in the UK.

Acronis launches new partner programme

Acronis, a provider of hybrid cloud data protection, extended its global partner program with the new Acronis Partner Programme for Cloud.

The new programme is designed to accelerate cloud data protection services revenue with a subscription model for service providers, distributors and cloud resellers. It includes marketing, incentives, technical training and certification as well as simplified partner on-boarding and free Web-based sales tools and enablement programmes.

Apple and Huawei’s European smartphone sales tank

Apple and Huawei saw their European smartphone market shares fall in the second quarter as Samsung took its stake to above 40 percent, according to Canalys.

Canalys said that Apple fell by 17 percent and Huawei fell by 16 percent respectively, as Samsung increased its dominance with its A-Series range of devices.

Canalys said that Samsung moved fast to take advantage of Huawei’s woes as the vendor continues to be restricted by the US government.

Intel is a big name in cyber security now

Chipmaker Intel has earned a big reputation for security in the servers, storage, and networking sector, according to beancounters at GlobalData.

Chipzilla gained the highest “Thematic” score (five out of five) for the cybersecurity theme in GlobalData’s Thematic Scorecard for the servers, storage, and networking sector. A Thematic score of five out of five indicates that the company’s competitive position in this theme will significantly improve its future performance.

NHS sets up AI lab

The NHS is opening a national artificial intelligence lab (AI) to boost medical research and patient care.

The AI lab is intended to bring together academics, specialists and technology companies to solve some of the biggest challenges faced by the NHS.

For example, the lab could help develop tools for better early cancer detection, new dementia treatments and more personalised care.

Intel intros new branding for laptops

Chipzilla has said that laptops verified through its Project Athena programme will carry a sticker “Engineered for mobile performance”.

Designed to draw customers to the laptops that meet the program’s target specification and key experience indicators (KEI), the identifier can be found for the first time with the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 laptop – one of the first Project Athena systems.

The branding will also be visible alongside the HP Elitebook 1040 and 830 machines arriving over the coming weeks, and additional machines from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung before the end of the year.

Businesses waiting for security products

Ebuyer has got its paws on police figures that found since 2015 there had been a nine percent increase in the number of reported thefts affecting businesses.

Out of the 23 police constabularies that responded to the data request, 19  said that they had been dealing with rising numbers of business-related thefts between 2015 and 2018.

Ebuyer found that the average value of the stolen goods taken has increased by more than £2 million since 2015.

BIOS IT and Supermicro get their paws on EPYC

BIOS IT and SuperMicro have announced the general availability of their latest range of AMD EPYC processor kit.

AMD EPYC 7002 Series Processors are expected to deliver up to 2X the performance-per socket and up to 4X peak FLOPS (floating-point operations per second), per-socket compared to the AMD EPYC 7001 Series Processors are expected to give Chipzilla (Intel) a run for its money.

Sharp Business Systems UK snaps up Complete IT

Sharp Business Systems UK has bought support services firm Complete IT as part of its cunning plan to boost its UK IT market presence.

Complete IT has been providing IT support and cloud solutions for a quarter of a century.

Sharp managing director Stuart Sykes said that Complete IT had a similar customer approach to Sharp.

V12 Telecom enhances customer service

V12 Telecom, a privately-owned telecommunications company based in Swindon, Wiltshire has partnered with Highlight to gain greater visibility into its networks and applications and thus enhance the services it delivers to partners and end customers.

V12 Telecom provides internet services, hosted voice, mobile and direct routing to small and medium sized organisations, many of whom are introduced via IT partners.  V12 implemented Highlight earlier this year to gain real-time analysis and visibility into the performance of all its services.

Analysts at  Kyocera have highlighted the need to concentrate on people as well as technology when rolling out digital projects.

In its recent report, Kyocera found that the people element was one of the crucial factors in deeming if a strategy would be successful or not.

Kyocera expert software product management Michael Powell said: “All companies know that the basis for evolution is to carry out a process of digital transformation.”Although it is important to know that Digital Transformation is more than just about moving towards digitalisation, it is rather a slow process of transition rather than jumping in at the deep end with swathes of automated processes and digitised documentation right from the off.
