EfficientIP hires Wood for global push

Security outfit EfficientIP has hired Kieran Wood as its new country manager and sales director for the United Kingdom and Northern Europe. This addition comes as part of an overall global expansion, as the company said it has seen a 38 percent growth in billings in the first half of 2020.

As part of his duties, Wood will hire a new sales team across Northern Europe as well as the implementation of a new channel program designed to develop and nurture new partners. The move signals EfficientIP’s commitment to the United Kingdom as a region worthy of ongoing investment and expanding strategic initiatives.

Wood said:  “Businesses need solutions that offer strengthened network security and enhanced operational efficiency—I’m eager to help deliver these to new regions and new customers.”

The next evolution of the electricity grid could be big for tech

The electricity market is evolving to allow a higher integration of variable energy sources and a new class of devices is approaching the market to satisfy this necessity.

In a report released by IDTechEx: “Potential Stationary Energy Storage Device to Monitor”, the emerging class of energy storage devices, characterized by long storage duration and MW size power output, are investigated.

While existing energy storage devices are already populating the market, from Li-ion batteries to pumped-hydro energy storage, this new class of storage technologies will aim to complete the puzzle of the energy storage market.

Pushed from the electrification of the automotive sector, Li-ion batteries have been deeply investigated in the last decades and are currently the standard choice for short and medium-duration storage.

Panasonic partners with three major kiddie charities

Panasonic has announced partnerships with three major charities in Europe to provide refurbished laptops and tablets to socially disadvantaged families. The programme is focused on enabling children to have access to the full benefits of eLearning in the current COVID-19 climate.

In the UK, the equipment will be used in Sheffield and Northern Ireland.

Save the Children in the UK, Apprentis D’Auteuil in France and Die Arche Kinder Projekt in Germany will receive 100 refurbished semi-rugged laptops and handheld devices during a two-year period – starting with 30 now. The equipment can be easily sanitised and shared amongst multiple families via a ‘library’ system. The first delivery of devices to the charities will have a total value of €50,000.

Ocado books into Oracle’s cloud

Ocado Group said it is using Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Cloud to help support its expansion into new industry verticals and international markets.

Oracle said its Cloud ERP system will let Ocado adapt to changing customer demands. It will also help Ocado to capitalise on new growth opportunities by enhancing its business processes.

Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) suite that helps companies manage their enterprise functions, including financial management, project management, accounting, and procurement. The suite runs on an Oracle technology stack in Oracle’s cloud centres and can be accessed through public or private cloud implementation.

Watchguard grows Partner Ecosystem by 50 percent

Watchguard has announced that both its existing and newly added partners from the Panda Security acquisition now have access to the full suite of products and services from both companies via WatchGuard’s worldwide network of authorised distributors.

Panda products are now available individually and through Passport, WatchGuard’s bundle of security services. Combining WatchGuard’s Total Security Suite and Passport allows partners to provide complete security from network to endpoint for their customers.

Watchguard senior vice president Michelle Welch said that opening a cross-sell opportunity for partners quickly was a major priority from day one, and it represents the latest milestone in WatchGuard’s ongoing mission to be the security provider for MSPs.

Most want their SAP applications on the cloud

While the majority of SAP applications are still housed on-premise, 70 percent  of those responsible for SAP believe migrating to the public cloud will be more beneficial than keeping it on-premise, according to a new report from Ensono

Ensono found that 61 percent stated that migrating SAP to public cloud is critical for business success.

There was consensus amongst the 100 IT leaders responsible for SAP within UK enterprise that public cloud provides businesses with opportunities. Almost 20 percent of those surveyed had one or more SAP application already hosted on public cloud and this is set to increase by 79 percent in the next two years as enterprise organisations launch their migration plans. This indicates that, following many years of barriers to public cloud such as security, loss of control and regulation, customers are edging towards public cloud maturity.

Veritas snaps up Globanet

Veritas has acquired Globanet, a privately held software company based in Los Angeles, California. The acquisition further extends Veritas’ strong portfolio of digital compliance and governance offerings to give customers native visibility into over 80 new content sources.

Avaya Cloud Office expands

Avaya and RingCentral have expanded their Avaya Cloud Office by RingCentral product.

Avaya Ireland Country General Manager Aidan Furlong said the commercial availability of Avaya Cloud Office means that the outfit was forging ahead to bring all the benefits of cloud-based unified communications to enterprise, mid-market and SME businesses.

TruStack reports £9 million revenue

TruStack has reported revenue of £9 million in the face of a “challenging” first year.

The MSP was formed in July last year by merging Pivotal Networks PCI Services and SITS Group. Since then the company has increased its staff from 44 to 53.

Phil Cambers, TruStack’s commercial director said there was no way of knowing the challenges that it and almost all other businesses would be facing in the coming 12 months.

Technology To Go partners with Liongard

Distie Technology firm To Go has partnered with Liongard, adding the software provider’s unified automation platform to its range of niche channel offerings.

The big idea is to provide the UK IT channel with a solution to enable MSPs to automatically document, audit and secure their customers’ systems – whether they are cloud and network based, or on-premise environments, the firm said.

CounterPath teams up with TigerTMS

Unified coms outfit CounterPath has partnered with  middleware provide TigerTMS to develop a custom-branded Bria and Stretto Platform solution, iConnect LITE.

Their iConnect LITE app enables hotel guests to use their smartphone or tablet as their room phone while checked into the hotel using a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection to make and receive calls.

Since the onset of COVID-19, hotel room phones have come under scrutiny as potential vectors for virus transmission. For this reason, hoteliers have been investigating ways to reduce contact with or entirely replace room phones. Using secure login credentials provided at check-in, the iConnect LITE app enables guests to make internal and external calls using their own devices, improving efficiency in communications and effectively replacing the handset in rooms. When a guest checks out, the iConnect Lite app deregisters and no longer provides login access on their device. Providing iOS and Android support, and hotel-specific branding, iConnect LITE is a viable option for all types of hotels.

Graphcore launches new partner programme

Graphcore has unveiled its first global channel partner programme.

The new Elite Partner Program consists of a network of distributors and resellers that will work to fulfill demand for Graphcore’s AI compute platform, the IPU-M2000, and IPU-POD for scale-out and supercomputing deployments.

In a statement the outfit said the go-to-market programme’s scale and reach reflect the momentum that its Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU) has built up so far and there is high demand around the world for its recently-announced second-gen IPU systems.
