Luton goes full fibre

CityFibre has put the finishing touches to its plans to network in Luton and Dunstable investing more than £45 million to make them two of the world’s best digitally connected communities.

This latest milestone sees thousands of homes in Luton, where the network rollout started, gain access to the best available digital connectivity. This includes premises in Stopsley, Wigmore, Round Green and Crawley, where residents can access broadband services from UK launch partner Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband, as well as a wide range of other internet service providers including Giganet, Air Broadband, Zybre, Yazi, No-one, IDNet, A&A, Octaplus, Link Broadband and Facto.

CityFibre has been working closely with Luton Council, to carry out pre works and exploratory surveying in the town centre. These works will help survey the future of the build and ensure minimum impact to residents and businesses moving into 2023.

The build will continue across the town throughout 2023, with Dunstable’s rollout scheduled to get underway early next year. Once the town-wide rollout reaches completion in 2024, almost every home and business locally will have access to full fibre services from a choice of internet service providers.

Jean Gowin, CityFibre’s Area Manager for Luton said: “We’re delighted by the progress being made in Luton – it’s fantastic that thousands of residents can already access the best available digital connectivity and enjoy the fastest and most reliable broadband services.

“As our network rollout moves into new areas of the town, we will continue to work closely with the council to minimise any disruption to residents. We ask residents to bear with us and assure them that any short-term disruption will pay off tremendously in the long-term.”

Construction is being delivered by Instalcom on behalf of CityFibre. The team is using a range of construction methods while working in close partnership with Luton Council and local communities to deliver a fast rollout while managing potential disruption.

As the network rollout is completed in each neighbourhood, CityFibre will designate the homes ‘ready for service’, which means residents can choose to connect to full fibre-enabled broadband services when they go live in their area.
