Lenovo recycles PCs to save polar bears

Lenovo is trying to flog old PCs to customers who want to save a few quid and the environment.

Using Lenovo Certified Refurbished, punters can get a second-hand PC that still works and doesn’t pollute the planet too much.

The company’s TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS) customers will also have more choices to mix and match their tech according to their needs and budget. Only Lenovo and its partners will offer the Lenovo stamp of approval.

Lenovo Global Sustainability Services head Claudia Contreras said going green is a big deal for businesses of all shapes and sizes.

“Lenovo Certified Refurbished makes our technology last longer and saves money and resources, offering a solution that gives customers a chance to support a more sustainable future. Certified Refurbished will help cut down on e-waste, breathe new life into old devices, and make a positive difference to the circular economy,” she said.

Through the Lenovo 360 Circle community, its partners are also working to drive circular results for customers and build a more eco-friendly future.

Lenovo’s 2023 Global Study of CIOs found that 60 per cent of CIOs are turning to Service (PaaS) offerings for their tech stacks, including for going green, and 62 per cent said they find it hard for their organisation to reach their green targets. Models like Lenovo TruScale DaaS help businesses manage their services, costs, and waste more efficiently through a single source with the flexibility to scale as needed.

Lenovo Digital Workplace Solutions Offering Development leader Anupam Garg said that along with smooth management and financing, Lenovo TruScale DaaS offered ways to transform the lifecycle – including IT carbon footprint and e-waste reduction – that help make circularity happen and move customers closer to their green goals while also boosting their productivity and savings.

Lenovo claims its  Certified Refurbished PCs go through thorough data cleaning and expert testing and meet Lenovo’s high quality, security, and performance standards and precise, consistent quality grading.

With a planned global rollout, Lenovo Certified Refurbished PCs will be available first in Denmark, France, Germany, and the UK.
