Contactless mobile payments are growing, says Juniper

Contactless mobile payment users will reach a billion globally by 2024 according to Juniper Research.

This is an increase from 782 million in 2022, representing a growth of 60 percent over that time.

The report identified increased investment in contactless acceptance infrastructure, especially across emerging regions, as key to driving growth, through which over 200 million new contactless payment users will be added to the market by 2024.

The research predicts that increasing consumer demand for convenient and frictionless payment methods is also accelerating this growth, as consumers only require a smartphone or NFC-enabled device to use contactless payments, thus eliminating the need to carry multiple payment cards.

Contact Centres-as-a-Service business increasing

A recent study from Juniper Research has found that the total number of calls handled by Contact Centres-as-a-Service platforms will be nearly 48 billion by 2027 — an increase from 20 billion in 2022.

This growth of 135 percent will be driven by leveraging 5G networks to implement advanced voice technologies including 5G-interactive calling and Artificial Intelligence-Interactive Voice Response.

CCaaS provides cloud-based contact centre infrastructure hosted by third-party service providers. It enables on-premises contact centres to use cloud-based infrastructures to service multiple technology channels.

Banking-as-a-service models see significant spending increases

Juniper Research has added up some numbers and reached the conclusion that companies are spending fortunes on tech compliance software.

Juniper said integrating tech with banking-as-a-service (BaaS) models will see spending increase significantly. Already non-banking businesses such as retailers, e-commerce companies and distributors are offering their customers financial products and are taking up BaaS offerings.

Juniper said BaaS models include outsourcing regtech services such as digital onboarding, and it found that 26 percent of digital onboarding processes in the banking market will use artificial intelligence (AI) systems by 2026, compared with just eight percent in 2022.

Juniper research author Harshada Thok said: “While the current benefits of AI are clear to regtech vendors, the immediate focus must be on ensuring the algorithms are fed the most relevant data to maximise their efficiency in verifying digital identities and future use cases. In turn, this will provide a differentiation point for regtech vendors in an increasingly competitive market.”

Smart building use predicted to increase

Juniper Research has found that the number of buildings globally deploying smart building technologies will reach 115 million in 2026, from 45 million in 2022.

This growth of over 150 per cent reflects increasing demand for energy efficiency from businesses and residents alike, as energy costs spike. Juniper Research defines a smart building as a building that uses connectivity to enable economical use of resources while creating a safe and comfortable environment for the occupants.

The new research, with the punchy title,  Smart Buildings: Key Opportunities, Competitor Leaderboard & Market Forecasts 2022-2026, found that by enabling buildings to monitor and automate common functions, significant efficiency gains can be made while improving the environment for workers and residents. The report recommends that vendors focus on building analytics platforms for the most value to be driven from deployments.

Juniper Networks Veep thinks 2022 cloud will be the new normal

Juniper Networks’ Vice President, Enterprise Marketing, Mike Bushong predicts that next year the cloud is going to be considered the “new normal” and it will be operations rather than services that will make it important.

Bushong said that one of the common misconceptions about cloud is that cloud is just “someone else’s servers”.

“It’s not the servers that make cloud offerings important; it’s the operations. To make operations really fly, architects have realized that they need to simplify and standardise. Bespoke infrastructure can’t exist for companies who truly want to optimize their operating environments. As this line of thinking becomes more prevalent, the first thing to go will be all the nerd knobs that make enterprise IT so complex”, he said.

Companies either born in the cloud or at the tail end of their digital transformation efforts will move first. Although this may create problems – if you are competing against a company that suddenly develops a meaningful digital advantage, the consequences can be dire. The industry is littered with the corpses of companies that lost to Amazon and other online retailers. Digital players have disrupted transportation, logistics, manufacturing…virtually every sector imaginable, Bushong said.

Juniper Networks updates partner programme

Juniper Networks has changed its Juniper Partner Advantage Programme (JPA), including a new top-tier level and “a modernised engagement platform”.

The changes will appear in January and include training which Juniper claims will “enable partners to quickly expand their knowledge of Juniper and maximise their business growth opportunities”.

Juniper Channel VP  Gordon Mackintosh said: “Juniper Networks is a partner-centric company, and the investments we’ve made in the programme for 2022 will accelerate our strong partnerships and continue us all on the path of hyper-growth. We believe our acquisition strategy and innovations have created the most compelling portfolio of networking solutions available today.”

The “Elite Plus” tier is aimed at Juniper’s “most dedicated partners” and offers “superior support, investment and rewards, along with dedicated business development and demand generation resources”, as well as boosted incentives for software.

Meanwhile, the new learning academy platform will “serve as a resource for new content and webinars to drive partner education and accelerate success”, Juniper said.

It is betting on a “Champion” channel strategy.

Automaker sensors will be a booming market

Suppliers of automotive sensors are set to make a pretty penny in the next 12 months, according to bean counters at Juniper Research.

The number crunchers have found the automotive sensors market will grow to over $92 billion by 2026 which is a 30 percent increase over 2021.

Juniper claims that the growth will be driven by sensors that enable automated vehicles and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Sensors monitoring various vehicle safety parameters in internal combustion engines will experience a substantial decline from increased electrification of vehicles, following the COP26 climate conference’s initiatives to move countries to 100 per cent electric vehicle sales by 2030.

The report, with the catchy title Automotive Sensors Market: Technology Evolution, Trends & Forecasts 2021-2026, expects LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors to bring in $3 billion in revenue in 2026.

Juniper does well thanks to strong channel

Juniper Networks said things are pretty OK  thanks to the changes it made in its channel last year.

Juniper Networks Sander Groot, head of EMEA and LATAM channels, said the changes bought in in the second half of last year to improve its market position made a difference.

Among those changes has been a decision to increase the number of managed partners that it works with, increase the focus on the enterprise market and more incentives for resellers to register deals early.

He said before the change he looked after 160 managed partners and which increased to 250.

“We have seen a 25 percent growth with our worldwide managed partners, which is spectacular growth with partners. It was a phenomenal year for Juniper in 2020 – we have grown significantly”, he said.

Juniper Networks spruces up SD-branch management

Juniper Networks has expanded its Contrail SD-WAN cloud package, in a move to spruce up its software-defined branch management and switch options.

Contrail SD WAN now includes support for SD-LAN operations, incorporating the ability to manage branch office LANs and provision new devices.

It means that customers can now easily provision Juniper Ex Series switches to manage LAN fabrics and configure LAN virtualisation and security from one cloud-managed portal, in the same way they operate their SD-WAN environments. This unified approach will help organisations reduce costs, streamline workflows and leverage the WAN and LAN network for connected security, Juniper Networks said.

The same revamped portal can also be used to show Mist wireless access points and launch Mist cloud for WLAN provisioning, troubleshooting, management and other day-to-day operations, including the vendor’s wired/wireless assurance capabilities.

Juniper Networks pushes 400Gbps Ethernet live traffic over 1,300 miles

Juniper Networks said it had successfully trialled delivering 400Gbps Ethernet live traffic over 1,300 miles. The trial was conducted in conjunction with SCinet, the Supercomputing 2019 Conference’s high-capacity network. SCinet used Juniper’s PTX10003 Packet Transport Router to deliver, it’s claimed, unprecedented capacity, flexibility and programmability.

This field trial marks an important step toward progressing the transition to 400GbE network capacity, which is vital to support bandwidth demands from advanced high-performance computing, next-generation cloud data centre architectures, emerging 5G networks, augmented and virtual reality and 4K video production and distribution. The trial held the week of November 18, 2019, was conducted between Denver and Chicago, using Juniper’s PTX10003, the industry’s first fixed-configuration core router to support 400GbE.
