Nokia upgrades Hyperoptic’s IP core network

Former rubber boot maker Nokia is upgradeing Hyperoptic’s IP core network.

The outfit expanded its relationship with ISP  Hyperoptic. Nokia has been selected to upgrade the provider’s IP core network, enabling future-proofed scale and capacity, along with increased power efficiency, for its growing UK customer base.

Hyperoptic will deploy Nokia’s 800GE-capable 7750 SR-s routers, which are powered by its ground-breaking FP5 routing silicon, a critical enabler for building higher-capacity IP networks that consume significantly less power per bit. FP5 allows the delivery of more than three times more capacity in the same space and power envelope as the Nokia FP4 hardware, currently in Hyperoptic’s IP network.

Hyperoptic hire’s BT’s Neale as its MD of Infrastructure

Broadband outfit Hyperoptic has appointed Lisa Neale as its MD of Infrastructure. Neale will report into Dana Tobak, CEO and Founder of Hyperoptic, and will be responsible for delivering the company’s network rollout ambitions.

Neale joined BT as an engineer at age 18, she has spent twenty years steadily rising up the ranks in telecoms. She recently held a number of leadership roles at Openreach, including the Director of Fibre Build in UK East, and Director of Fibre and Network Delivery in UK West.

Neale said: “I am really excited to have a key role in enabling Hyperoptic to connect new customers so that they can enjoy a whole new broadband experience. In parallel, I am also looking forward to collaborating with the senior team on new innovative tools and techniques that will help fast track our rollout schedules. I feel that I will be able to add a lot of value from consolidating everything I have learnt through my career.”

Hyperoptic offers free high fibre broadband

Hyperoptic is offering a free broadband service to families who currently do not have a reliable broadband connection.

The offer is available for local authority tenants in homes covered by Hyperoptic’s network. It is being enabled via its partnerships with registered housing providers. The service will enable children who do not currently have access to adequate connectivity to easily access virtual education resources and learn from home.

Residents who meet the criteria will be given a promotion code from their local authority. They can then order a free 50Mbps service from Hyperoptic, which will run until the end of this academic year (31 August 2021). A router and installation will be arranged free of charge, on a convenient date. The resident is under no obligation to continue or pay for a service after this date.
