Online florist Arena Flowers has selected Comms365 to provide a reliable and fast internet connection to its temporary warehouse, during its peak season.

Based in Milton Keynes, Arena Flowers has been providing floral arrangements for over twelve years and sold online through its e-commerce website and also fulfils orders on behalf of other partner businesses.

PCM might push into Europe after UK sales boost

PCM has hinted that it may expand further into Europe after its UK business scored £50 million in sales last year.

For the year ending 31 December 2018 PCM reported flat revenue of $2.2 billion, while in the UK sales hit $62.4 million. But its UK business, which launched in 2017, now equates to three per cent of the business’ overall sales.

On an earnings call, CEO Frank Khulusi said that the reseller might look to move further into Europe after Brexit.

Exclusive Group buys Canadian cybersecurity outfit Fine Tec

Exclusive Group announced the acquisition of Canadian cybersecurity VAD, Fine Tec Canada, to boost its existing US presence and expand global coverage to the whole of North America.

The deal coincides with the appointment of Exclusive Group veteran Laurent Daudré-Vignier as SVP North America to oversee and grow operations across the region. Together this enables vendor, GSI and reseller partners with a complete solution for North American value-added distribution services, and boosts the company’s aggressive global growth trajectory.

QBS acquires Siener Informatique

QBS has snapped up the small French value-added software distributor Siener Informatique.

Based in Ivry-sur-Seine, Siener Informatique employs ten employees and distributes to  20 software multimedia, development, network and comms  companies.

The company that appeared in 1990 and saw a steady growth for 25 years. It offers services like training, software deployment, installation and migration of mail servers and rest.

Colt appoints Gilmour as Mobile Connectivity Head

Colt Technology Services  announced the appointment of Mark Gilmour as its Head of Mobile Connectivity Solutions.

Gilder will be reporting directly to Colt’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Keri Gilder, with his role focused on leading and expanding Colt’s mobile connectivity proposition. His job involves driving Colt’s mobile strategy while working with teams globally to strengthen the business’s position in the mobile market.

European SMEs suffering from more ransomware attacks

Malware, Wikimedia CommonsBusinesses in Europe are suffering more than their global counterparts according to Datto’s latest European State of the Channel Ransomware Report,

The report said that more than 84 percent of European MSPs reported ransomware attacks against their SME customers –a higher percentage than on all other continents.

Although hackers are turning to banking trojans, cryptomining and other increasingly sophisticated attacks, ransomware is still the number one threat for businesses. Hackers have upped their game by attacking more frequently but demanding less ransom.

Google promises more channel investment

Google has said that it will invest more in its channel ecosystem to boost its public cloud.

The outfit made the statement after publishing that it made more than 23 per cent more during the year ended December and banked  $136.8 billion.

Revenue for Google Cloud Platform is mentioned in the figures under “other revenues” segment along with its Play app store and hardware units. Sales for this group of products was up 31 per cent to $6.49 billion.

Big cloud needs to work on channel trust claims report

Canalys beancounters have warned that the big cloud players need to sort out their trust issues with the channel.

The big cloud providers need the channel to help widen sales but need to be straighter with the channel and build trust if they are going to deepen the relationship throughout what is set to be a year of growth, Canalys said.

AWS continued to hold its position as the dominant cloud service provider in Q4, but Azure is taking more share as it looks to mount a challenge to its rival.

ADVA expands Ensemble Harmony

ADVA is telling its partners that it has expanded its Ensemble Harmony Ecosystem to provide more software, hardware and deployment location solutions.

The network functions virtualisation (NFV) partner programme now includes more than 50 members and encompasses over 100 components.

The latest additions range from commercial virtual network functions (VNFs), to open source VNFs, to white box or commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) servers. With new partners, including integrators and resellers, collaborating to deliver product to communication service providers (CSPs), the expanded ecosystem offers more choice of  components.

Intel expands in Ireland

Chipzilla is carrying out a large expansion of its Irish manufacturing operation.

Intel already announced plans to boost the size of its Leixlip facility, but has now looks like it wants to expand its Irish operations even more.

The new plans, combined with others announced last year, could see Intel build two new factories.

Extreme Networks announces new IoT product

Extreme Networks announced the general availability of Extreme Networks’ Defender for IoT which helps organisations secure unsecured IoT devices.

Defender for IoT can be deployed on any network and designed to allow non-technical staff at schools, hospitals, retailers and hospitality venues can use it to isolate and protect both wired and wireless IoT devices from cyber attacks.

IoT devices present two major security flaws for businesses today. Most lack embedded security—they were built to run on private networks where the assumption was it was tightly controlled, and device-level security wasn’t required. Manufacturers never considered that the private enterprise network could be connected to the public internet, and therefore the devices may run out-of-date operating systems, have hardcoded passwords and/or lack anti-virus and firewall capabilities. And they are typically deployed in a flat or unsegmented network so that if breached, the attacker can gain access to sensitive areas of the network.

David Raftery, Chief Revenue Officer, Integration Partners said that customers across the industry were having difficulty with IoT security and one of the most challenging aspects is the creation of security policies for a diverse range of devices.

“This can be time-consuming and fraught with error. Extreme’s Defender for IoT solution automates this task with its ability to learn a device’s typical behaviour and then build a security policy that restricts its communication to only what is authorised. With the ability to then segment IoT devices into secure tunnels, Extreme provides our customers multi-layered IoT security over whatever network they have deployed today. It’s a unique and a compelling solution”, he said.

Mike Leibovitz, Senior Director of Product Management and Strategy, Extreme Networks said that businesses are extracting so much value from the IoT revolution that it’s easy to see why deployments are happening fast, and security should not be viewed as an impediment to that.

SMEs look to escape a hard Brexit

A third of SMEs are looking to establish operations overseas to make sure they can avoid the worst consequences of a hard Brexit.

Beancounters working at the Institute of Directors (IoD) have worked out that 29 percent of those firms  had moved operations out of the UK or were planning to do so.

Those findings come on the back of research from Agilitas IT Solutions which reported back in September that 52 percent of UK channel businesses were actively looking to expand their business internationally.

Most of the firms that the IoD spoke to were looking to open offices in the EU and there have already been moves from some in the channel to do just that, with both Softcat and Computacenter opening Dublin offices.

Dell boosts security portfolio

Dell is working with CrowdStrike and SecureWorks to offer enterprises access to endpoint security for digital transformation.

Dell’s new AI-driven and cloud-native  SafeGuard and Response platform contain tools that help businesses analyse threats and respond to security incidents on a single managed platform.

It is all powered by CrowdStrike, SecureWorks’ threat intelligence and response management and Dell’s wants to flog an all-in-one threat protection product for all businesses.
