Boston announced the first European offering for Nvidia Rapid test drives.
The move brings Nvidia Rapids, a suite of open-source software libraries giving data scientists the freedom to execute end-to-end data science and analytics pipelines entirely on GPU. The result is a cluster of Nvidia T4 GPU-optimised servers running a variety of Rapids frameworks available to customer and data scientists looking to accelerate and scale out their frameworks working in Python.
Beancounters at IDC have noted that while server numbers are down, sales revenues are doing OK thanks to higher ASPs.
A review of the global server market from IDC found that although demand had dropped year-on-year in first quarter by 5.1 percent the higher unit prices improved revenue by 4.4 percent.
Low-end and mid-range servers fared much better than higher-end products, which suffered a 24.7 percent decline, a second consecutive quarter of decline.

Infinidat has announced a Data Rescue Program for IBM customers concerned by Big Blue’s shutdown of its storage innovation centre.
Infinidat developed the programme in response to what it described as an influx of inquiries from IBM customers regarding escalating pressure to transition from high-end to lower-end storage and reports of layoffs across the high-end storage division.
Yieldhub has scored UK fabless ASIC design and supply company EnSilica as a customer.
The Wokingham-based outfit chose Yieldhub for yield management and outlier detection. EnSilica is a provider of custom ASICS to the automotive, industrial and IoT markets. Yieldhub will partner in enabling them to deliver these products.
Deal activity remained strong in security technologies space in 2018, according to analysts GlobalData.
Despite the fluctuating trend in venture capital (VC) funding and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the security technologies space during 2014-2018, deal activity remained stable in 2018 compared to 2017, primarily due to the hype around the cybersecurity segment and companies’ strategies to strengthen their market position, said GlobalData.
The US and China trade war will hurt global smartphone shipments in 2019, according to Canalys.
The research outfit predicts that smartphone shipments will reach 1.35 billion units this year, representing a 3.1 percent year-on-year decline.

Sophos has acquired US-based Rook Security to provide managed detection and response (MDR) to its channel partners.
Rook was founded in 2008 and is headquartered in Indianapolis. Sophos said the acquisition adds to its recent deal for DarkBytes, which was announced in January.

A CBI/TCS report has highlighted the UK’s rapidly accelerating digital talent gap and claims that the country is missing out on £63 billion a year as companies struggle to find people with digital skills.

Converged ICT Services Provider GCI has acquired Modality Systems, which claims to be the world’s largest dedicated Microsoft communications and collaboration practice with operations in the UK, USA, Asia and Australia.
The move means GCI can expand its international business and capitalise on the growing global market for its Microsoft-based, cloud-enabled intelligent communications services.
The $145 billion industrial internet market is at risk of slowdown over integration concerns, according to GlobalData analysts.
If this is the case, the industrial internet, which is expected to redefine the way the global industrial economy operates, is in danger of failing to take off because of integration problems, GlobalData said.
Microsoft has announced that its flagship Microsoft Store in London will open to the general public on 11 July, 2019.
The first physical retail store for Microsoft in the UK will be located on Oxford Circus and covers 21,932 square feet over three floors.
