Cloud Data Management Company, Rubrik, announced the appointment of Brett Shirk as the company’s Chief Revenue Officer. In his new role, Shirk will be responsible for driving Rubrik’s global go-to-market strategy. He will report directly to Rubrik Co-founder and CEO Bipul Sinha.
Shirk joins Rubrik from VMware, where as senior vice president and general manager, Americas, he was responsible for strategic planning, business operations, “go-to-market” strategy, and management of VMware’s business in Latin America, the United States, and Canada.
“Brett has been the architect behind a number of the industry’s most successful sales organisations”, said Bipul Sinha, Rubrik Co-founder and CEO. “His unparalleled expertise scaling world-class teams, ability to capitalise on changing market dynamics, dedication to partners, and customer-first mentality will be invaluable to Rubrik as we continue our global expansion.”
Shirk has more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry. Prior to VMware, Shirk spent 14 years at Symantec and its spin-out Veritas Technologies, rising from a district manager in the Great Lakes region at Symantec, to Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Veritas Technologies.
“Over the course of my career I’ve had the opportunity to scale a number of global sales organisations”, said Brett Shirk, Chief Revenue Officer at Rubrik. “Rubrik has achieved in its first five years of business what most companies achieve in twice the time, if at all – a diverse and loyal customer base. I’m excited to join Rubrik and help drive its next phase of growth.”
This appointment comes at a time of record customer growth and expansion for Rubrik. In January, the company announced that it raised a $261 million Series E round at a $3.3 billion valuation from new investor Bain Capital Ventures and existing investors Lightspeed Ventures, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures and IVP.
Rubrik also expanded its executive team in 2018 with several high profile hires from leading technology companies, including: Chief Financial Officer Murray Demo (Atlassian), CIO Avon Puri (VMware), Chief Legal Officer Peter McGoff (Box), Chief People Officer Jeff Vijungco (Adobe), and SVP of Product & Strategy Shay Mowlem (Splunk).
