Net zero or zero government contracts

Decarbonisation or net-zero strategies will soon be a prerequisite for any IT provider wishing to compete for public sector procurements.

Resellers have lost business due to a lack of credentials around sustainability, and it is widely expected that a net-zero requirement for suppliers will soon become a pre-requisite for most public sector procurements in the future.

New rules introduced in September – known as PPN 06/21 – compel companies bidding for government contracts worth more than £5 million a year to commit to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, EnFrame’s ICT Framework covering hardware and software, to AV, print, networking/comms and services is a little tougher.

enFrame’s ICT Framework is set to go live in three phases between March and May making a net-zero commitment a blanket requirement for applicants.

The framework encourages suppliers to offer products and services that help the schools that use it to reduce their energy footprint.

The UK government was one of the first to enshrine net-zero targets, and to stay on course must hit a “very challenging” 68 percent reduction by 2030.
