Search engine outfit Google is cutting hundreds of jobs within its recruiting organisation as it pulls back on hiring.
Google spokesperson, Courtenay Mencini said that the company will still recruit top engineering and technical talent but has meaningfully slowed the pace of its overall hiring. As a result, it does not need so many recruiters.
California-based, Google, has not disclosed the percentage of its recruiting workforce impacted by the layoffs.
Google’s recruiting vice president Brian Ong told employees that the move was a tricky decision to make and was not a conversation anyone wanted to have again this year.
Mencini said the company is “supporting those impacted with a transition period, outplacement services, and severance as they look for new opportunities here at Google and beyond.”
The company kicked off the year in January by revealing that it was cutting 12,000 jobs, which affected about six per cent of the full-time workforce.
