The COVID-19 pandemic enabled the channel to implement a more environmentally-friendly way of working, according to Agilitas Marketing Director of Richard Eglon.
Eglon said that Sustainability continues to dominate corporate discussions on a global scale. With consumers more aware of their everyday choices and what this means for the environment, businesses must step up and take responsibility for the products and services that they sell.
“Companies are beginning to adjust and adapt their behaviours and attitudes towards sustainability, with many looking at circular methods to eliminate waste and re-use resources. This includes the products and devices that they use across the workforce”, he said.
The pandemic has caused a shift from desktops to laptops and mobile devices, which will undoubtedly affect the frequency of production. Laptops are typically perceived as having a shorter corporate lifespan than desktops but by having a smaller carbon footprint and lower power consumption than desktops, some may argue that IT suppliers should be promoting them as a more environmentally-friendly option, he said.
“As we begin to prepare for the next year, companies need to consider how they are going to address the issue of sustainability, e-waste and the circular economy, especially with the permanent shift to remote and home working. With that in mind, it is clear to see that there could be many environmental benefits from such an approach”, Elgon said.
