VMware has appointed former Google Cloud vice president of product marketing Carol Carpenter as its new chief marketing officer.
With over 25 years’ experience in the technology sector, Carpenter will be responsible for leading all aspects of the firm’s Global Marketing organisation, including Corporate Marketing, Partner, Segment and Field Marketing.
Sanjay Poonen, chief operating officer of VMware, said: “Carpenter’s passion for solving customer problems aligns well with VMware’s customer-first approach and her expertise will take our marketing team to new heights.”
Carpenter helped lead Google Cloud’s transformation from its early stage to its leadership position in the cloud market – building the team, doing the brand positioning and campaign playbooks, enabling sales and the shift from products to solutions in its “go-to-market”.
Before her time at Google Cloud, she was CEO of ElasticBox and had leadership and marketing roles at Trend Micro, Keynote Systems, and Apple.
Writing in LinkedIn, Carpenter said VMWare’s offerings represented an opportunity to simplify the complexity of customers’ modern, multi-cloud setups.
“I believe that containers are the operating system of the future, and I am excited by what VMware is doing with Kubernetes and Tanzu to help customers accelerate development and run securely at scale”, she wrote in the post. “Customers are seeking container-based solutions with all the benefits of cloud-native development and operations.”
