Security outfit Check Point Software’s 2024 Cloud Security Report has revealed a staggering upswing in cloud security incidents.
The report shows a jaw-dropping rise from 24 per cent in 2023 to 61 per cent in 2024, marking a whopping increase of 154 per cent within a year. The report highlights the growing complexity and frequency of cloud threats, exposing the escalating cunning of cyber criminals in cloud environments.
Intriguingly, the report revealed that 96 per cent of those surveyed expressed worries about their ability to effectively manage emerging cloud risks. This suggests a significant shift in perception from previous years, raising alarm bells about the ability of standard threat mitigation strategies to keep pace with the complexity of modern cyber threats. Consequently, it underscores the urgency of tackling these rapidly evolving threats with innovative solutions.
Significantly, the report reveals a pivotal shift in security strategies, with 91 per cent of organisations now prioritising artificial intelligence (AI) to fortify their defence mechanisms. This shift is a direct response to the escalating cloud security incidents, highlighting the need for proactive threat prevention through AI-driven technologies.
Cloud security integration has shown complexities for 54 per cent of respondents due to maintaining consistent regulatory standards across multi-cloud environments. Additionally, 49 per cent faced difficulties integrating cloud services into legacy systems. These struggles suggest that limited IT resources often complicate the potential for more streamlined solutions.
The report highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive, collaborative, and AI-driven cybersecurity framework. Check Point’s CloudGuard product is spotlighted as offering actionable security and more innovative prevention that effectively bolsters organisations’ overall security posture. The product is part of Check Point’s Infinity Platform, which aims to centralise and automate security processes, compliance, and rule sets, thereby improving visibility and control over cloud environments.
The company surveyed 813 cybersecurity experts across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and other regions, including a diverse group of executives, IT security professionals, and staff from a wide range of industries and business sizes. This in-depth analysis of the measures organisations are taking to tackle security obstacles in their use of cloud services also illustrates the significance that advancements like AI play in this crucial area.
