Paris surrenders at Sopra Steria

French reseller Sopra Steria’s has appointed Cyril Malargé to succeed the departing Vincent Paris as CEO.

Paris said that after 30 years at the company he wished to be relieved of his CEO duties for personal and family reasons.

Malargé currently leads the group’s operations as a chief operating officer and will take its helm as CEO on 1 March.

Paris said: “I would like to thank Pierre Pasquier sincerely for the trust and the constructive and exacting support he has always given me. I am proud to have been able to contribute in my various functions to the development of Sopra Steria, to which I remain committed. “

Sopra Steria hit by ransomware

IT services giant Sopra Steria has been downed by the Ryuk ransomware group.

Sopra Steria, which runs a joint venture with the UK Department of Health to provide services such as accounting, payroll and managed IT to NHS organisations said the attack happened on Sopra Steria’s IT network on the evening of 20 October.

“The Group’s teams are working hard for a return to normal as quickly as possible and every effort has been made to ensure business continuity. Sopra Steria is in close contact with its customers and partners, as well as the competent authorities.”

French media reports claim the company has fallen victim to Ryuk ransomware. The ransomware hit Sopra Steria’s Active Directory infrastructure has encrypted portions of the company’s network. 

Government asks outsourcers to write their wills

Outsourcers are drawing up “living wills”, which lay out contingency plans should they die.

The government was caught off-guard by the collapse of construction giant Carillion earlier this year and wants to avoid a repeat of the mess that followed.

Cabinet minister David Lidington said that Capita, Serco and Sopra Steria have volunteered to create protocols if they drop down the loo.
