Amazon bases itself in Manchester

Amazon has opened its first UK corporate office in Manchester.

The tech giant’s office occupies all six floors of the Hanover Building in the city’s Northern Quarter and measures 90,000 square feet, which the company expects “in time” to house 600 employees.

The online bookseller is looking for software developers, solutions architects and finance analysts across both Amazon and its cloud arm, AWS.

Manchester is best for IT

Trade association CompTIA has named Manchester as the best place in the UK to work in IT.

Its inaugural index ranked more than 200 UK cities based on the IT employment opportunities available, taking into account factors such as the number of IT postings locally, projected job growth and reported cost of living in travel to work areas.

Manchester was the top due to the “broad scope” of opportunities it offers, including career progression options and high quality of living, based on cost of living and job demand.

CTI Digital appoints Steve Gale as London head honcho

CTI Digital has appointed Steve Gale to oversee its London office.

Gale will move from the agency’s Manchester office to the capital next month to manage its strategic operations and work directly with clients based in the south of England and Europe.

As managing director of its London office, Steve will play a key role in future acquisitions and the pan-European growth of CTA Digital, the agency said.

Slalom opens new Manchester base

Slalom has chosen Manchester as the location for its second UK office.

Partnering with over 200 solution providers including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Salesforce, Microsoft, and Tableau. The company said that its London office, which opened in 2014, has established the firm’s reputation in the UK as helping companies across industries, in the private and public sectors, learn from their data, impress their customers, deliver faster, and transform their organizations.

42Gears Mobility Systems sets up shop in Manchester

imageEnterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution provider, 42Gears Mobility Systems, has expanded into the UK by setting up its third worldwide office in Manchester.

42Gears is headquartered in Bangalore, India and has a US office in Fremont, California. 42Gears has a global customer base and bulk of its business comes from US and UK. UK was the natural choice for setting up the next 42Gears office after the US. The company said that the strategic move will help 42Gears to serve UK and EU customers better and tap into new business opportunities in these markets.

The new office is being headed by Kaushik Sindhu, Associate Vice President, 42Gears.

42Gears’ CFO, Ashok Poojari, said on the announcement: “We are excited to expand our business. Best yet, our growth is coming from both new and existing clients. We have successfully set up a wholly-owned subsidiary of 42Gears in Manchester and are now looking forward to integrate with Manchester’s thriving business community.”

Manchester will serve as a strategic base to explore business development opportunities in the European market and will also help acquiring the right talent. The focus will be on growing the company’s market presence and strengthening business relationships with existing OEMs, resellers, partners and customers in the United Kingdom and Europe.
